Dr. Pearl Jarrett's Story
Dr. Pearl Jarrett is a multi-award-winning Disruptive Changemaker, but her journey to impact didn’t start with ambition—it started with survival. In 2005, Pearl was diagnosed with cancer, facing the fight of her life. Beating the disease gave her a second chance, and she made a promise to herself: she would never waste another day. She would make every moment count, create impact, and leave a lasting legacy.
Fuelled by this renewed sense of purpose, she founded The Jarrett Foundation and Veranda Connect Ltd, using innovation and philanthropy to transform lives. Cancer changed her, but it also gave her life true meaning.
Pearl’s passion for renewable energy was born from witnessing Jamaica’s struggles with incredibly high energy bills, despite the Caribbean’s abundant sunshine, this ignited a mission within her. She immersed herself in research and founded Veranda Connect Ltd, introducing the latest first world innovations in renewable energy to Jamaica. She believes no one in the region should suffer from energy poverty.
Her impact has been globally recognised. In 2024, she received the Governor General’s Diaspora Award for Excellence, with His Excellency Sir Patrick Allen praising her innovative thinking and dedication to community-focused initiatives. There are many other prestigious international awards, including The Gleaner UK Honours Award and the Women in Tech Excellence Award.
Through The Jarrett Foundation, she has provided over £500k ($634k) in resources to 136 Jamaican schools and donated 2 million face masks during the pandemic. In the UK, for 2 years she was one of the Advisers to No 10 Downing Street. With Dr Errord Jarrett they lead youth mentoring programs and a London-wide initiative to reduce knife crime and is referred to as “Aunty Pearl” at New Scotland Yard.
Pearl’s greatest success, however, is deeply personal—her 35-year marriage to her best friend Dr. Errord Jarrett and being a proud mother of three phenomenal children.
